MALAYSIA
Resources and power
Malaysia is exceptionally rich in natural resources, with mining—especially petroleum and gas extraction—continuing to play a significant role in the nation’s GDP. In agriculture, rubber and palm oil remain two of Malaysia’s most established and influential cash crops. Although rubber’s contribution to GDP has decreased since the mid-20th century, rubber production still supports domestic manufacturing and remains an important export commodity.
Since the 1970s, Malaysia has rapidly expanded its palm oil industry, becoming one of the world’s top producers of palm oil and its related downstream products. Beyond crude palm oil, the sector also generates high-value by-products such as palm kernel expeller (PKE), widely used in global markets as a nutrient-rich feed ingredient for livestock. This growing demand further strengthens Malaysia’s position as a leading supplier of palm-based agro-industrial products.
Malaysia is also known for its premium durian, with exports representing about 6.8% of total national production. Demand for Malaysian durian continues to rise across Asia, adding diversity to the country’s agricultural export portfolio.
Complementing these industries is a wide range of other cash crops, including cocoa, pepper, coffee, tea, coconuts, and various tropical fruits. This diversified agricultural base supports strong downstream processing, efficient supply chain integration, and sustained export growth—making Malaysia a highly strategic location for global industry partners and solution providers such as Jinmax.
